The story is as follows...

In the 1870s, a farmer named Smith owned this land. He made his fortune on the backs of what was essentially slave labor. He bought prisoners from a local jail, paid the state and was responsible for their room and board. The convicts were kept in miserable living conditions, shackled and chained in the damp basement of the barns, while the livestock lived upstairs. They were forced to work the farm and care for the animals. They worked long hours with little to eat or drink.

Naturally, rumors circulated of missing prisoners and other terrors inflicted by Smith. “Other terrors?” you might ask. Yes, as Smith gained his fortune he became greedy and a little deranged. He began researching new medical techniques that could turn him a profit. As prisoners died from these experiments, Smith needed to dispose of the bodies. He ground up the dead bodies and fed them to the prisoners in a stew. On weekends they would have a Barbeque. Prisoners thought they were getting a treat. Finally, in 1889 the prisoners revolted. They took over the farm, killing Smith and his entire family. They set fire to the barn burning it to the ground before disappearing into the night, never to be seen again.

It is said that late at night, many people have heard screaming from under the buildings even to this day. Could this be the lost souls of the prisoners? Those tortured and mutilated for Smith’s own greed.
